SERIOUS THOUGHT ABOUT THE FUTURE

The future is always masked in mystery

With folk unable or unwilling to see.

Many can see no further than here and now,

Yet in each country,

town and village it is known to change is taking place.

Populations growing, droughts causing land and food destroying.

Flooding chasing those who can to seek other higher lands.

Political disagreement propel nation against nation,

Blasting into obliteration cities, towns, villages

with mass evacuation?

Refugees to be passed about and robbed ripe for exploitation.

Virus running free though the means to check them is available,

But misinformation incomprehensibly delivered by some is believed.

Condemning their communities to death with choking,

gasping, fast-spreading deadly disease.

Only at death's door do they start to implore for the vaccine

they so callously ignored, now too late to receive.

As they are wrapped in their shroud

and buried with few to mourn their passing.

Is that the future we seek?

Is there a chance for change?

The time to act is now to save our planet the only one we have.

Through the United Nations,

the stark realisation has to be conveyed back

To all levels of our population,

change is required and right now.

No plans to be watered down,

they need extending if we want a chance to save the future

for our children and their children’s future.

No man or woman can leave this world with wealth

on their backs or in their hands.

We all leave as we came with nothing.

Can we not spend what wealth and effort

we have now to save this blessed land.

WHAT IS WRONG?

The light has gone from your day,

What is wrong?

The smile that always used to stay

Has disappeared now gone.

The songs you used to sing

Have lost their cheerful ring.

Nothing is so bad

To keep you down for long

Let me gather you close,

With kisses and hugs,

Return your face to the norm.

Nothing now is wrong.

HEARTSTRINGS

True love is not always the romantic heady kind. It is just as powerful when it is moved to care for someone, human or animal in dire need.

At the moment there is much need for that type of love in our World. It is heartening to see efforts being made to assist distress on a massive scale in parts of the World at the moment.

Not just by governments but by heartstrings being pulled at all levels of society. No longer can each country be treated in isolation, as this Virus is no respecter of boundaries.

We need to help and support each other to vanquish this scourge, as we did in times past. By answering the pulls on our heartstrings.

THE SNIFF

It started with a tickle in the nose,

And a sneeze or two.

Advancing on to a constant drip,

Before growing to a faster flow.

My immune system gathered up speed,

To battle a virus that dared to invade.

Reducing my diction to a squeak,

Hearing to a dulled-down sound.

No crystal clear, distinctive normal ring.

“Could you repeat and louder speak please?”

The torrent started to thicken up.

Nose blowing, and awful coughing noise begins.

So others know it is a cold you are growing.

Friends stay away to keep this bug's friendship at bay.

You tuck yourself in, to prevent sharing.

And dose yourself with all you can.

Till the throbbing, and coughing stopped.

Your nose clears and your chest expands.

Battle won till the next time, it arrives unplanned.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

William Shakespeare, the Bard, many have the compulsion to read, his works at least once.

Others fail to see the gems laced within the pages, waiting for scholars to reveal their worth.

Yet others learn and recite word by word and line by line, stretched over a lifetime.

More in trepidation take to the stage, to enact the scenes he had meticulously created for actors to add excitement and colour too.

To capture new audiences, to keep the tales of Shakespeare the Bard, as fresh as when from his pen they rapidly flew, to capture the imagination of many.

SEEKING WISDOM

A Chief was very worried, he had to make a big decision for his tribe. They looked up to him, he could do no wrong,

He was a hero. He felt there was too much pressure for him to carry, so he went to the sea.

He swam on the surface breathing slowly and deeply, trying to clear his thoughts.

It did not seem to work, so he took a deep breath and dived.

Swimming slowly through the seaweed beds, swaying on the ocean floor.

Suddenly he saw a seahorse, clinging upright to a weed trying to hide, to be ignored.

The chief called out to him and said: ‘How are you my friend, may I hitch a ride with you?

The sea horse said neither yes or no and brushed against him.

To the chief’s surprise, he found he had magically shrunk in size. He could ride with the seahorse swinging in and out with the tide.

As he rode he pondered the problem, much smaller now due to his shrinking. He realised, perhaps instead of being the all-knowing mighty one. He had to share the problem with everyone in the tribe. It was the best solution.

He thanked the sea horse for it’s company as it silently moved away. He pushed back up to the surface into the light of day.

Sharing his problem, the tribe grew in strength with added responsibility and pride.

GRACE

Grace by name goodness by nature.

She baked night and day to give cakes and biscuits away. She would open her tin, and share baking hidden within. One at a time they were given away.

Dull eyes shone, as the delights hit the tongue, provoking taste and memories, of times long past, leaving smiles to linger on.

Grace never did partake, it was for others, she steadily continues to bake. Leaving the magic of companionship behind.

Note:

This is a true story about a lovely quiet lady, using her delicious shortbread biscuits to open up a conversation.

COLE PORTER NIGHT

The evening began with music I did not know.

The magic started as the Cole Porter tunes swung into play,

The Jazz gripped the room and listeners started to sway.

Many taken back to their youth so far away.

Voices softly joined in the lyrics well known.

Remembering times long ago when in a Smokey room,

Love touched them with these beautiful tunes.

Memories to take away and enjoy another day.

ROLLING RHYTHM ACROSS THE FLOOR

The samba and rumba’s had us swaying in our seats,

Music connecting each part of us with the hypnotic beat.

All thoughts left our minds as we were encouraged

To lose ourselves in the rhythm.

Till the body’s swaying, eased all intruding thoughts away.

The drums called us to let go, and clap along.

While the piano added drama to the night

As the singer drew us in, when she started singing some familiar songs.

We could have stayed all night if the lights had not been dimmed,

Sending us out into the moonlight,

Taking tunes to sing in harmony another day.

I DO NOT NEED CHANGE ANYMORE!

I do not need Change anymore!

When young I used to follow fashion as best I could. On wages rather thin, leaving enough for slender encouraging food.

Trips on the bus to the flicks were good enough for us.Tucked up close, love blossomed in full view no hanky pan-key allowed. Now I need a cab to take me out.

With to Call to a friend for help and to lean on, and treat, to a lovely meal as it will be a special day, a birthday her’s or mine, no Champagne or Pimms this time.

Just ginger beer, an old favourite clinging on from the past. It will ensure my departure will be as elegant as I can manage. On limbs that wobble, in spite of firm walking stick directives from me.

I do not need change anymore!

My wardrobe is full of clothes I recycle, letting out or taking in depending on the shape I’m in. Shoes stay till frayed or scuffed, they cost so much, leaving a gaping hole in the budget. Plus larger sizes have become uneconomic to make. Does anyone know of any good foot shrinking powder? Oh, dear flip flops it will have to be! Hats are no longer in, I adore mine now, as my hair is starting to thin. Huge handbags are the order of the day, but not for me. Mine works best if they are light and small, or else I can’t carry them at all.

I do not need change anymore!

My culinary delectations have dwindled too. What is wrong with a plate of stew, that you can actually see. Not Novo Cuisine, those tiny bits that coldly slip and slide, avoiding the biting, leaving hunger rumbling, with menus so enormous, they need a waiter's assistance in deciphering. Even the desserts are incomprehensibly foreign to me. Where is the apple pie? Rhubarb crumble? Favourites of mine.

Are they part of the change this time?

My curtains when new were the very best it is true. Now faded like me, need a vigorous shake to make them brush up again and hang like new. No need for the latest household fashion, garish and uncomfortable for me to sit and view. Bathrooms are places to speedily pass through, as it costs money to keep them at the optimum temperature, for our elderly frames to spend many minutes lingering there too.

We never seemed to worry back in the past, money seemed to last and last.

All the equipment, for the TV, radio, media recording, much too complicated for my simple understanding and controlling, with manuals enormous and print almost invisible to read. I prefer knobs big and shiny, easy to grip and switch with a stiff wrist.

And I love books where I can handily reach them, comfortably close nearby. Not involving a dangerous obstacle trip and slip across the floor. Just so visitors can see a lovely tidy room.

Now I arrive at my greatest change and inconvenience. My Bank no longer resembles the friendly one I knew, anymore. It is hanging on by a thread, and will soon be shred. It’s all done on the internet, a human is rarely met. Conversing with a computer does not have the same appeal. Crooks called hackers with unusual zeal, seem to enter and steal, our hard-earned savings with dexterity, lack of conscience and ease. We have to be on guard, with passwords at the ready, with questions to answer, to make sure I am not a robot. Finally enabling me to access my essential, precious banking, my security secure again. The anxiety during the process is hard to brush away, it hangs around tends to stay.

Trust has gone out the window, never thought I would see the day. A rumour is spreading, it will be our cash which will be disappearing next.

How on Earth will we manage then?

With children’s pocket money, gift’s of cash to friends and family enabling them to treat themselves to something, they might really like. Helping Charities with collecting tins will become a thing of the past. As for the homeless on the street, how do we help them? They have no homes, internet, or bank account, yet will always be around and disconnected, don’t they count?

I do not need change anymore, it is too fast for me.

I no longer seek change for change's sake that is for sure, I certainly do not seek change bravely now, as I did before. I just want to stay as I am, till the end, when I can slip quietly away. Leaving this new world to the young, who will understand and move things on, just as we had to do.

How comfortable are you with change?

WRITING IS NOW MY CALLING

My grammatical rules and spelling can be hit and miss

Punctuation an academic would find appalling.

I cannot stop the words being written.

From brain to pen transferred to wrist,

They speedily keep falling.

There seems no end as far as I can see.

Writing is now my calling.

Words and feelings released, where fear once blocked,

For what they are worth, not an educational failure.

Some of us no matter how often taught,

In different ways are unable to retain,

The wonders of the written word.

They appear as language strangers.

Writing is now my calling.

The joy of inhibition cast aside,

Emotions good and bad released from the inside.

Tumbling free, exposing some of the real me.

It is healthy to keep part of emotional control intact,

As you do not know how those reading will react.

The freedom of the written word means,

Writing is now my calling.

LITERARY CERTIFICATE 2021

MOTIVATIONAL STRIPS 3RD ANNIVERSARY
LITERARY FESTIVAL CERTIFICATES 2021

Social media had witnessed one of the world’s greatest literary celebrations from 19 to 21 June, being Motivational Strips' 3rd Anniversary Literary festival.

Year on year, the MS anniversary celebrations have been a joy to the global literary diaspora where the world writers unite and celebrate their success of having created the world’s most active writers forum.

But this year we had decided to do it differently by keeping it as a festival. We dedicate this year’s celebration to the departed writer’s friend and a great leader Late Kairat Duissenov Parman, founder of our associate Union World Nations Writers Union.

MOTIVATIONAL STRIPS CONNECTION

A personal invitation began my introduction
Leading on to the amazing connection
To new friends in many lands.
It was through the writing and reading of words
I began to understand their lives
And they learned more about me and mine.

As time passed and writings and friendships grew
We shared sad, sometimes terrifying times,
Wrought by both nature and mankind.
As pens flew seeking help, in the only way they knew.
With our pens declaring our sorrow,
Attempt to raise spirits and help them face the morrow.

We celebrate new friendships and marriages
Joyously share birthdays, our own and the newborn.
Write poems of exquisite love in many tongues,
Read by all with clever translations.
With the pens taking us to amazing places.
Which in our lifetime we could never hope to go.

Each poem or story takes our knowledge of each other,
Further, as our pens relax with the growth of respect and trust.
Our words hopefully help peace in our troubled world.
We are a family of writers, poets, and world speakers.
No matter where we go there is a chance we will meet.
Other members, good friends of Motivational strips.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PENNY WOBBLY
ON HER GOLDEN BADGE 2021

Motivational Strips since it’s inception two years ago has always honoured and awarded talented writers worldwide, based on the strength of their, periodic, momentary and routine literary skills with the powerful pen. Mutual interaction in literary as well cordial terms and literary precision are two factors that impress the administration committee.

The golden badge was awarded to exceptional literary merits based on the script value. Thoughts have insight and acceptance when it’s directed towards the betterment of mankind and living sources. Thus a prolific writer from Great Britain has enthralled the world with a powerful uplifting message.

The relevance of this quote is huge during the pandemic era where the physical proximity in sharing affection is curbed for health reasons.

Today Motivational Strips Global Administration takes happiness in awarding the coveted golden badge to Penny Wobbly - Country: UK

STORIES TUMBLE FROM MY PEN

When looking back it becomes clear

The strangest of things

Not a word upon a page did I spring

Not a story told how sad.

Now how things change

Never stay the same

Words bounce around in my head

Waiting to be rearranged.

Once it was fear when I held a pen

Disaster flooded the page

How I longed for stories

With punctuation and spelling pristine.

Thankfully now with my PC’s help

And writing in full flow

Stories tumble from my pen

From me to you just hope they will not end.

MOONLIGHT TROTH

Say your loving words to her with feeling,

As I hold on to the moon.

Hold her hands tenderly, brush them with your lips.

I am gripping hard till she replies with real meaning.

A pledge

I hope you will both work hard to make last.

Hurry now my grip is slipping,

The moon is on it’s way.

What was her answer?

We are going to be married one day.

And hope the moon will be there,

To brightly shine on our first night,

And the end of a spectacular day.

STANDING IN ATTENDANCE

Standing grouped together a distance apart waiting to take part in an important performance, stood four music stands and a music stool.

‘I am Note, she is Tune, he is Quaver, and that beauty over there is Clarity. Oh I nearly forgot Support, the wooden four-legged guy, he supports the Cello player today, we live together. Important music is settled upon us, at the right page on centre stage.

Without us, the music would lose its haunting beauty and continuity. We carry it’s weight all through the performance.

‘Who have we got today Clarity, anyone we know?’

‘Three Guys, Classical guys but they are all dead, Beethoven, Mozart and some American new Guy.’ She answered.

‘Their music lives on, of course, so we will never be out of a job.’

‘What sort of music did he leave us with?’ Asked Quaver, ‘we are very familiar with the others, carried their music loads of times.’

‘ I know a bit about him, he was like the other two,’ laughed Tune, ‘a child protege. He wrote his first symphony when he was seven, never studied music, it all came from his head.’ She laughed again. ‘Glad our heads are not rounded like his, or we would not be able to hold the scores flat and steady as we do.’

‘Come to think of it, muttered Note, ‘we supported his music here once before. Isn’t he the guy that wrote the TIME MACHINE?’

‘Yeh, that’s him, but he hated it being the one, so many remembered him most for. When he wrote some wonderful music, big film scores, conducted and recorded some big stars, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Count Bassey, Judy Garland, music for quite a few Cowboy, series too so they said.’ Ended Quaver. He was self-effacing and did not put his name on many scores when he should have. Very few do that in the music business, even today.

‘His wife Gina is in the audience tonight, so we will have time to study her, as they said she would be somewhere in the middle, and it makes a change, that she is not dead either. She must be very proud though, don’t you think?’ Replied Clarity.

‘Who is using us tonight?’ Asked Tune.

Three violinists and a cello.’ confirmed Quaver, ‘No flapping about, stand steady, here they come are you ready.’ They sighed yes, in unison.

‘Oh, oh! What is happening here, the second violin does not have any sheet music? She has one of those lPads, oh that is heavy on my back. She has put something on the floor, what next?’ Asked Clarity.

Everyone is ready to quiet now we are off.’ muttered Tune under her breath.

The music reached out into the audience, gathering them up to take them on a journey of amazement and delight. Away from the life, they had been experiencing lately, taking over all their senses, till the final note faded or in some cases abruptly stopped.

‘Hey, guys they liked that selection, judging by all the applause.’ Said Note

‘Clarity why were your pages not being turned, ours were? Inquired Tune

‘Well I told you she put a heavy IPad on my back, and something on the floor. I knew they would want to be going digital soon, so this is the beginning. She tapped the pad on the floor with her foot, when she wanted to change pages, so I did not get touched or rocked at all. Nor did any music fall and float off like they do sometimes.’

‘Hold on they are back again,’ Note called out. ‘Brace yourselves, especially you Clarity, new music now with this Garcia bloke. His wife is looking anxious, it a shame we can’t tell her it will be fine. It is good music and in musical terms it is new, the musicians love it. we could tell that from up here when they were rehearsing.’

‘Wow quite a bit of city effects in that music don’t you think. I thought it had the Big musical feel! Said Tune, ‘and the audience loved it, listen to the applause and everyone is smiling. We see it all from here good and bad, this is good, really good, a bit special. Some of the people here actually met him and knew he was a good all-around guy.

The others rattled in agreement.

‘Interval no rest for you though Clarity, as she has left her IPad on top of you.’ whispered Quaver. ‘Not long as this, the selection is quite a bit shorter, just hang on.’

‘The music will help, as it is fast and jolly, well to me it is.’ Mentioned Clarity.

They stood watching the audience for a while, they are coming, the attention we are off again!’ Said Note, Clarity braced herself.

When the performance was over, we were returned to the store cupboard where we relaxed. And Note remarked solemnly, ‘At least we are not going to be scrapped, just have to take more weight on our backs, and hope to have screws that still work keeping us upright.’

‘We will just have to go to a good Wobbly balancing class, is anyone organising one in the cupboard?’

Giggled Tune.

CHATTERBOX

I used to be a chatterbox!

Chatted night and day!

Always had to have my say!

One day a sports injury,

Damaged my mouth.

Not one word,

Could I utter,

I was miserable.

At first,

I longed to join in,

Before finding a new delight.

I became a listener.

A new world opened for me.

What a maze of information.

I would have missed it,

If silence had not claimed me.

Now it is sheer bliss,

To quietly listen to you chaps.
