FIRST MIST

On opening the curtains first thing this morning, there was a mist.

Hiding half the garden with the occasional tall, dark tree or bush leaves peeping through

I watched as it swirled around, changing the garden into a mysterious place.

Opening the door, I felt it brush my face with a chilly, damp touch.

It seemed to create a silent aura of its own, as the birds sat quietly awaiting the arrival of the morning sun.

To begin their dawn chorus announcing a new day had begun.

The mist slowly filtered away, as I acknowledged the first truly autumnal day.

Winter is on its way.
