The crack of willow, a gentle breeze.
The brilliant sun, showing up grass, short and green.
Players exercising for a match on this beautiful day.
Family and friends gathered together to cheer both sides on.
Time to start: spread out, chaps; keep your eyes sharp.
Leave no gaps.
The ball hurtling at speed towards the wicket.
A crack of the bat sends it spinning out of harm’s way.
A gentle clapping and murmurs of “Well done, Trevor”.
As sandwiches are munched and wine and cold drinks are consumed.
On a typical English summer’s day.
