A SAD BUT BEAUTIFUL ENDING
A vase upon the window ledge
Has held a gift of tulips colourfully displayed.
Each day, on opening my eyes, a touch of pleasure surged.
Seeing each flower upright, straight and tall.
As petals opened, showing their perfection.
For days I enjoyed their presence.
Then a slow drying and aging of the petals’ tips
Warned of their decline.
Yet still they retained a certain beauty in their changed shape.
Not one petal has the bunch yet let slip.
With my camera I captured the vision that has held me captivated.
On opening the curtains tomorrow, the petals might be detached on the shelf.
A gift that has given me pleasure while living.
I hope you, too, from this tale, enjoy the flowers I was given.
