SEEKING SOLITUDE

There are times when heart and mind seek solitude.

A bit hard to find in our current noisy lifetime.

So, suppressed is this quest for rest.

Not for long, as the clamour grows and grows.

With fidgety legs and cramping toes.

A brain restlessly searching, to write, plan, to compose.

The important break between night and day being eroded away.

The search for solitude becomes vital.

As the demands of daily life call ever louder, louder.

A bus ride provides an answer: to the countryside.

As it vanishes into the distance, I stand still and listen.

Nothing man or woman made to distract or attack me.

Just sighing leaves dancing in the breeze, and bird song.

Taking a well-worn path up a hill to its clearing, expansive view.

With each step taken and breath expelled, tension eases, bit by bit.

As eyes flit from horizon to horizon, nothing there to create uncomfortable distraction.

The balm of fresh air and solitude commences the repair of heart and mind.

So necessary to indulge in from time to time.
