UNEXPECTED TOUR GUIDE

UNEXPECTED TOUR GUIDE

We boarded the Ferry at Circle Quay in Sydney, early one morning and set off up to the river for a run to Polomata. It was the site of the first capital of Australia. It proved to be an overcast day with a threat of rain, luckily it never fulfilled its promise.

We sat up in the bow so we could try to capture in a small way what it must have felt like to the early settlers, creeping up this river for the first time. There would have been no river markers showing the shallows and the hidden rocks, no fridges no road accidents.

A gentleman joined us, he was a local man. He proceeded to relate the history of the area, in an entertaining and interesting way. He became our own private tour guide.
